Constellium Muscle Shoals is an aluminum manufacturing plant based in Alabama with over 1,200 employees. With its widest strip mill in the USA and a world-class recycling center, the site represents one of the largest sites within Constellium and is a world-class can recycling center, with the capacity to recycle nearly 20 billion cans per year. Muscle Shoals’ main product is aluminum can sheet for the packaging industry, particularly for beverage containers. It manufactures sheet used in all three components of an aluminum can, namely body stock, coated end stock and tab stock. Additionally, Muscle Shoals’ supplies Auto Body Sheet substrate to Constellium’s Bowling Green, Kentucky, site.




Primary Purpose :


Provides technical guidance in product and process development, contributing to high quality products delivered consistently on-time.


Provides sound technical support to the operation, a collaborative effort that is efficient and effective. Manages quality in adherence of required quality standards and service package agreed with our customers, striving for continuous improvement.




General Accountabilities :

Key Accountabilities :

  • Identify production difficulties in aluminum rolling and finishing processes, future quality issues and cost improvement opportunities and propose investment solutions.
  • Implement and maintain Quality Systems effectively across the Muscle Shoals plant to ensure the level of product quality is enhanced utilizing and developing the team working structure and achieve certified quality specification required by customers.
  • Manages product development team and initiatives to enhance product attributes in line with customer demands and business strategy at lowest cost within a lean manufacturing framework.
  • Oversees product trials and new product development opportunities: metallurgical and quality aspects for beverage/beer can bodystock / coated can endstock, and automotive body sheet inner panels/structures and outer panels.
  • Formulate and specify process developments in hot and cold rolling, finishing and coating which contribute to improved quality, throughput and recovery performance in line with long term business objectives
  • Review and approve all quality system changes and corrective action responses
  • Implements and oversees maintenance of the quality process system including all accreditations required for current markets e.g. ISO9001, IATF 16949
  • Provides direction to process development team to support process and product development activities and growth strategy
  • Lead operational quality improvements within Muscle Shoals operations together with the manufacturing and quality teams and in close collaboration with the process engineers, metallurgists and product and process leaders
  • Investigate systematically root causes of non-conformities (internal and external) with key stakeholders to suggest sustainable improvement actions with the objective to continually improve the product quality of our production, complemented by controlling the efficiency of implemented improvements
  • Drive customer satisfaction with respect to quality through reduction of claims, timely root cause problem solving (8D’s) and technical support.
  • Support the design and implementation of a specific and sustainable quality training program to ensure the appropriate competency level at all levels of our operational organization
  • Coach and consult key stakeholders in the change management process (quality mindset and quality system) to maximize the acceptance




Leadership Competencies, Technical Skills Requirement

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Technical or Engineering field
  • 10-15 years’ experience in technical and quality management in a heavy manufacturing environment; 24/7/365
  • Desired experience in a metals or can or automotive industry
  • Analytical skills – data analysis, scheduling and planning
  • Must be strong in leadership, people management, and possess the ability to motivate a technical organization to achieve the highest standards of quality work and support to operations
  • Ability to make quick, calculated decisions based on past experiences and limited information.
  • Ability to lead critical thinking root cause analysis with cross-functional group. Must be able to both participate in team processes and to lead same. Position must be able to effectively analyze and determine the best course of action among various technical, cost, and time dependent options
  • Ability to quickly evaluate situations and make timely decisions regarding operating priorities, material disposition, corrective actions, containment requirements, and communication strategy
  • Results orientated, accountability, negotiation, problem solving, project and change management, and team working/team building
  • Good communication, high level of autonomy, collaboration and interpersonal skills are equally important
  • Perform, understand and communicate detailed information analysis and evaluation, and have a good track record working effectively within a team-based environment
  • Language fluency in English required. French or German would be a plus
  • Ability to work in cross-organizational and multi-functional teams in a global matrix organization with manufacturing operations and an international mindset
