Primary Purpose

The Engineering Manager provides leadership to Engineering personnel as required to improve facility and equipment reliability through the coordination and management of maintenance projects.

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Safely manage Engineering’s support of the reliability and maintenance strategy to ensure equipment downtime is minimized and reliability of equipment performance is increased 
  • Develops and leads execution of an asset integrity process for all key equipment within the department on time and within budget
  • Manage spending and conformance to the capital plan as budgeted
  • Coordinate technical issues to resolution by providing guidance to supporting team members
  • Ensure continuous improvement in equipment performance considering safety, quality, productivity and reliability
  • Measure and ensure compliance to key machine KPI’s to drive the plant towards meeting objectives
  • Maintains and ensures compliance to all safety processes of all equipment and procedures within the plant 
  • Facilitates engineering project work
  • Provides leadership and guidance on engineering and reliability projects
  • Develops budget proposals based on equipment condition assessments for both capital and major maintenance

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Implement the general management of the Mechanical Engineering organization and its projects
  • Update and maintain the plant technical engineering standards for all disciplines
  • Develop and maintain a project portfolio with accountable Project and Client assignments
  • Champion and enforce compliance with Constellium standards and policies
  • Review all project plans and status reports weekly
  • Act as a filter to maintain the quality of supporting documentation that is consistent with corporate standards
  • Facilitate general plant engineering assignments and lead the execution follow up on same
  • Facilitate large and small project scope development and interface with outside engineering support and vendors
  • Improve safety and security of operations, product quality, productivity, recovery, equipment reliability, etc
  • Report on current, forecasts, and future planned activities
  • Lead area engineers to facilitate spending forecast updates and process protocols
  • Identify and elevate any deficient projects
  • Review / approve or identify and elevate, any change orders submitted
  • Review / approve countermeasure implementation
  • Develop implement and maintain the controls organization and its activities including; planning and scheduling management, CAPEX and Expenses budget management, Purchase orders and invoice management, Cash out reporting and forecasting, Document controls management, CAD design resource management, and Drawing controls management
  • Track and validate a successful on time, in scope, and below budget delivery of engineering projects
  • Coordinate activities with any effected APU Manager to ensure the coherence of engineering, automation, and project activities within that manager’s area of responsibility
  • Provide leadership, coaching, training, and mentoring to direct reports within the engineering group

 

Leadership Competencies, Technical Skills Requirement

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering; Mechanical or Electrical is preferred
  • Minimum of five years of experience managing large engineering projects in support of the reliability of equipment performing production operations in a heavy manufacturing environment; 24/7/365
  • Minimum of fiv years of experience with automation of heavy industrial equipment
  • Superior knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil Engineering Disciplines
  • Experience with SAP Plant Maintenance
  • Analytical skills – data analysis, schedule and planning
  • Must be strong in leadership, people management, and possess the ability to motivate an engineering organization to achieve the highest standards of quality work and support to operations
  • Ability to make quick, calculated decisions based on past experiences and limited information.
  • Ability to lead critical thinking root cause analysis with cross-functional group. Must be able to both participate in team processes and to lead same. Position must be able to effectively analyze and determine the best course of action among various technical, cost, and time dependent options
  • Ability to quickly evaluate situations and make timely decisions regarding operating priorities, material disposition, corrective actions, containment requirements, and communication strategy
  • Results orientated, accountability, negotiation, problem solving, project and change management, and team working/team building
  • Good communication, high level of autonomy, collaboration and interpersonal skills are equally important
  • Perform, understand and communicate detailed information analysis and evaluation, and have a good track record working effectively within a team-based environment
  • Language fluency in English. French or German would be a plus
  • Ability to work in cross-organizational and multi-functional teams in a global matrix organization with manufacturing operations and an international mindset
